Wendeline (Wendy) Sue Brumbaugh, age 73, peacefully went to be with her lord and savior Jesus Christ on October 28th, 2024 surrounded by her family at her home in Bethel, Missouri.
Wendy was born July 10th, 1951 to Wendell and Dorothy (Corbin) Wood. She was married to Melvin Brumbaugh for 50 years. He proceeded her in death in 2018. In 2020 she married John Yarbrough, he survives.
Wendy and Melvin were blessed with three children who survive. Patricia (Dennis) Brawner, Maywood, MO, Joseph Brumbaugh (Dee Kelsey), and Jason Brumbaugh (Jody Brassfield), both of Bethel, and one "adopted" son, Ty (Tammy) Miller, Bethel, MO. Wendy is also survived by five grandchildren Kylie Derboven, Bethel MO, Jodi (John) Christie, Hunnewell MO, Dalton (Tea) Brumbaugh, Bethel MO, Anna (Derek) Leach, Basehor, KS and Austin Jones, Kansas City, MO, and one grandson-in-law Shawn Derboven, Bethel, MO. Seven great-grandchildren Lane Derboven, Delaney and Nolan Leach, and Sadie, Hank, Hadley, and Lucy Brumbaugh. Also surviving is one sister, Cindy (Mike) Shuck, Monroe City, MO, one brother, Danny (Ginger) Wood, Hager's Grove, MO, and one sister-in-law, Erma Geisendorfer, Labelle, MO. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband Melvin, one daughter in law Tracy Brumbaugh, her father and mother-in-law Harry and Doris Brumbaugh, 6 brothers-in-law, Kenneth, Ersle, David, Glen, and Jimmy Brumbaugh and Troy Carlye, and one sister-in-law Roberta Stice.
Wendy began her teaching career at South Shelby high school and then finished at North Shelby. Her students excelled in STAR events at both schools and many times brought home gold medals from national competitions. After leaving the classroom she began employment with the University of Missouri Extension and retired from there. However, she didn't formally retire because four months later she began the role of Director for the Shelby County Economic Development. Wendy's passions were volunteering to help others, music, Historic Bethel German Colony, and grant writing for many organizations in Shelby County. She was known for playing the piano or organ for many weddings and funerals. She was the organist for the Bethel Christian Church for several years and accompanied the Bethel Quartet for many concerts. One of her exciting times was following in her mother's footsteps and playing for the Bethel German Band. She encouraged her daughter to also play in the band and they had much fun traveling together.
Wendy was a founding member of the Communities Taking Action. Wendy was president of UMEA during her term with extension and served on national, state, and local committees, and boards including the HBGC board, Bethel Food Panty, and United Way of the Mark Twain Area, and Douglass Community Center. Her most recent passion was bringing suicide awareness and prevention to Shelby County and founded Shelby County Cares. She was a member of PEO, Delta Theta Tau, and Omicron Pi.
Even with all of her many accomplishments, Wendy's greatest love was for her family and friends. She enjoyed spending time on her porch visiting with them. She loved making big meals for her family, sewing, doing puzzles, and thrift shopping with her daughter and granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, November 2, 2024, in the Bethel Christian Church Bethel, MO. Visitation will be held Friday, November 1, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. also in the Bethel Christian Church, Bethel, MO. Officiating the services will be Michael Brands. Burial will be in the Midway Cemetery. Music will be by Bethel Quartet and recorded selections.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Coder Funeral Chapel in LaBelle, MO.
Casket bearers will be Dalton Brumbaugh, Austin Jones, Doug Geisendorfer, Randy Stice, Shawn Derboven, and John Christie. Honorary bearers will be Ty Miller, Ray Smith, Lane Derboven, and Hank Brumbaugh.
Memorials are suggested to the Shelby County Cares and or Bethel German Colony. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Coder Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 151, LaBelle, MO, 63447.
