Robert Leon Murray, age 82, of Edina, MO, passed away Friday, May 11, 2012, at his home in Edina. Leon was born September 15, 1929, at Novelty, MO, the son of Theodore Kells and Mary Susan Harris Murray.
He was united in marriage to Margaret Phyllis Hines on April 2, 1955, at Shelbina, MO. Leon graduated from Novelty High School. He served his country in the United States Army from 1950 to 1951 and then served in the Reserves for nine years. Leon was engaged in farming most of his life in the Novelty area. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Kirksville Chapter # 1751, a member and Past Commander of Ira Barclay American Legion Post #290 at Novelty, MO, a member of the Novelty Christian Church and since moving to Edina had attended the Edina First Christian Church. Leon enjoyed gardening, westerns, driving his tractors in parades, his cat Fred, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends.
Surviving are his wife Phyllis Murray of Edina, MO, three children, Sheree Lynne Prebe and friend Gary McKenzie of Edina, MO, Pamela Jo Boling and husband Steve of Lentner, MO, and Audrey Lea Hamlin and husband David of Edina, MO, seven grandchildren, Jonathan Ryan Prebe, Michael Lee Prebe, Jessica Rae Wolf and husband Jamie, Dustin Allyn Boling and fiancée Kara Lehenbauer, Steven Drew Boling, David Brett Hamlin and wife Bryana, and Adrienne Lea Hamlin, three great grandchildren, Isaiah William Prebe, Nathaniel Ryan Prebe, and Raylynne Jean Prebe, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Norma Jean Parrish, and a son-in-law, John Prebe.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, May 13, 2012, at Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, Edina, MO.
Reverend Dewayne Wellborn and Reverend Rick Barnes will officiate the services. Burial with full Military Honors will be in the Veterans Garden of Honor at Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville, MO. Musical selections will be "I Can Only Imagine" and "Go Rest High On That Mountain". Casket bearers will be Jonathan Prebe, Dustin Boling, Michael Prebe, Brett Hamlin, Drew Boling, Jamie Wolf, Isaiah Prebe and Nathaniel Prebe. Honorary bearers will be Matt Murray, Harold Foreman, Gerald Perry, Carroll Rogers, Don Woodward, Dennis McMahon, Ray Prebe, Al Boling, Roland Hamlin, John Dale Daniel, and Jack Vaughn.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2012, with family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, Edina, MO.
