Nellie Lucille Henkins, age 96, of Newark, MO, passed away Monday, October 1, 2012, in Monroe City Manor Care Center in Monroe City, MO.
She was born June 16, 1916, in Dallas City, IL, the daughter of Charles and Emma Pearl Kirby Lyons. She was united in marriage to Marion B. Henkins and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents and five brothers G.T. Lyons, Arthur Lyons, Robert Lyons, Leroy Lyons, Elmer Lyons and an adopted brother Earl B. Hawkins.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews and good friend Donna Smith and husband Carl of Shelbyville, MO.
Nellie received her education in Illinois. She was a housewife and homemaker. She traveled all over the country with her husband while he was employed in bridge construction. She lived in the Newark area for several years. She enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, mushroom hunting, gardening, flowers, cookouts and her dogs.
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, October 4, 2012, at the Newark Cemetery in Newark, MO. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Officiating the services will be Reverend S.D. Bodwell.
