Murel Jeanette Gragg, age 88, of Edina, MO, passed away Monday, May 5, 2014, in the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO.
She was born April 19, 1926, in Knox County, MO the daughter of Fred and Ethel Snart Gentry. On March 23, 1946, in Knox City, MO, she was united in marriage to Robert Wallace Gragg and he preceded her in death on January 6, 1997. Also preceding her in death were a brother Fredrick Osborne Gentry and two siblings in infancy.
Surviving are one daughter Jeanette Gibbons and husband Jim of Edina, MO, three granddaughters Jana Morton and husband John of Edina, MO, Jamie Campbell and husband Chris of Edina, MO, and Janie Gibbons of Edina, MO, four great grandchildren Brady Morton, Tanner Morton, Kaitlin Campbell and Ethan Campbell, two sister-in-laws Peggy Motter and Jerry Gragg of Edina, MO and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Murel was raised in the Hurdland area where she received her education. In 1955, she and her husband purchased the Smith's Plumbing and Heating business. In 1964 the McCurren Maytag Company was purchased and the Frigidaire appliance line was added to the business. The business was then established as Gragg Plumbing and Heating. During the years as the business expanded many services, appliances and specialties were added to meet the needs of area customers. Bob and Murel resided on their farm southeast of Edina until the fall of 1985.
Murel was a member of the Edina First Christian Church and past member of the Edina Country Club. She enjoyed many motorcycle trips with her husband across the United States and Canada and camping with family and friends. She also enjoyed assisting in the dining room at Knox County Nursing Home, cards, puzzles, and quilting and had made many quilts for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014, at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Reverend Dewayne Wellborn will officiate the services. Burial will be in the Linville Cemetery.
Music will be Carol Hayes organist and Brent Karhoff, soloist. Musical selections will be "Old Rugged Cross", "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace".
Casket bearers will be Dick Hopkins, David Jones, Harry Lee Oldfather, Bill Baker, Larry Sykes and Bill Hayes. Honorary bearers will be David Morgret, Don Harrison, Delbert Hawkins, Ted Mann, Mike McGinnis, Ray Prebe and Mike Peters.
Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. on Friday, may 9, 2014, with family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO.
Memorials may be made to the Edina Christian Church or the Donor's Choice and may be left at or mailed to Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1, Edina, MO, 63537.
