Merrill Dewey Long, age 77, of Edina, MO passed away Monday, December 9, 2019, in the Knox County Nursing Home at Edina, MO.

He was born February 2, 1942, in Kirksville, MO, the son of Cecil Willard and Ruby Elaine Sizemore Long.  He was united in marriage to Janet Witherow on July 15, 1964, in Edina, MO.

Surviving are his wife Janet Long of Edina, MO, three children, Kathy (Cliff) Douglas of Pella, IA, Keith (Carla) Long of Palmyra, MO, and Krista Jones of Glendale, AZ, eight grandchildren, Samantha Douglas, Ryan Douglas, Katie Douglas, Dylan Douglas, Bryce Long, Braxton Long, Skyler Burkardt and Landon Burkardt, two brothers, Richard (Judy) Long of Keokuk, IA, and Mitchell Long of Wayland, MO, and several nieces and nephews.  Dewey was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ronald Long, brother-in-law David Witherow and in-laws James and Lucille Witherow.

Dewey received his education at Downing, MO where he graduated from High School.  Dewey was employed for thirty-nine years with Mark Twain Telephone Company at Hurdland, MO.  Dewey enjoyed hunting for artifacts and arrowheads, hunting and fishing, he also enjoyed antiques and spending time with his family.  Dewey was a member of Central State Archeological Society.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 14, 2019, in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO.  Reverend Robert Harrison will officiate the services.  Burial will be in the Linville Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Bryce Long, Braxton Long, Dylan Douglas, Landon Burkardt, Skyler Burkardt and Mike Long.

Honorary bearers will be Charlie Hamlin, Gary Ross, Don Lindsey, Donald Hall and Bobby Parton.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 13, 2019, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO.
