Marie Spees Holbert, age 101, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at Country Aire Retirement Estates at Lewistown, Missouri. She was born July 31, 1909, in Knox County, Missouri, the only daughter of Joseph and Ada B. Morris Spees.
She graduated from Knox City High School in 1927, and attended Kirksville State Teachers College.
She was united in marriage to Paul A. Holbert on July 16, 1936, at LaBelle Baptist Church and he preceded her in death. She was a member of Newark Baptist Church and a resident of the Newark community until moving to Lewistown, Missouri in 1976, living there until the death of her husband December 27, 1992. After suffering a stroke she moved into the home of Harold and Dorothy Latimer of Newark, Missouri, living with their love and care until entering Country Aire Retirement Estates.
Surviving are four nieces, Norma Colabella and husband Joe of Clear Lake, California, Geraldine Daak of Lewistown, Missouri, Brenda Cordis and husband Chuck of Port Charlotte, Florida, Colleen Morrison of Norman, Oklahoma, three nephews, Gene Holbert and his wife Elaine of Port Charlotte, Florida, Carlisle Holbert of Newark, Missouri, and Ronnie Herndon of Elgin, Minnesota and one sister-in-law Vernita Holbert Cordis of Port Charlotte, Florida. Marie loved to make quilts, read and make scrap books.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 25, 2011, at the Coder Funeral Chapel in LaBelle, Missouri. Pastor Olivia Earlywine will officiate the services. Burial will be in the Newark Cemetery. Musical selections will be Amazing Grace and How Great Thou Art.
Casket bearers will be Carlisle Holbert, Robert Latimer, Ronnie Latimer, Bob Parsons and Donald Holbert.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. till time of services at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February, 25, 2011, at the Coder Funeral Chapel in LaBelle, Missouri.
