Obituary

Margaret Janice Swenka,86 of Lewistown, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, October 29th, 2024 at Country Aire Retirement Estates in Lewistown, MO. She was born on October 22nd, 1938 in Iowa City, IA, the daughter of John L. Madden and Lillie Mae Curry Madden of Tiffin, IA. She was united in marriage to Marvin Phillip Swenka on August 25th, 1957 in LaBelle, MO. He preceded her in death on October 8th, 2024. They were married for 67 years. She was also preceded in death by 4 brothers, 7 sisters and their spouses and also a baby. They were parents to 4 daughters Crystal (Thomas) of Lewistown, MO., Laura Holeton of Cedar Rapids IA., Kimberly Swenka of Springfield, Il. and Lisa (Randy) Oelberg of Charles City, IA. Also 6 grandchildren, 12 great- grandchildren and 3 great- great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Margie, as she was known to many, was a homemaker and supported her husband in many things including the family business. They eventually moved to a small farm near Oxford, IA where they enjoyed raising buffalos, having huge gardens and cook-outs for family and friends. She loved country-western music and traveling out west. In her later years, her and her husband moved to Missouri and lived in the house where her husband grew up. Margie enjoyed many things from reading books to planting and raising flowers. Most of all, she loved her flea markets and she was a bargain hunter. Whenever she got a good deal, you would have thought she found a pot of gold. She also loved her cats! At one time while still living on their farm in Iowa, she had 120 of them and they we all her babies! She will be missed by all and if there was ever an angel on earth it would be her. She is survived by sisters-in-law Marlene Votroubek of Cedar Rapids, IA, Marie Scott of Canton, MO., Sharon (Benny) Scott of Williamstown, MO., and Mary Barner of Munden, KS. Also a brother-in-law Edward F. Swenka of Benton Harbor, MI.

Graveside services will be held for family only at Midway Cemetery Lewistown, MO.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Blessing Hospital Hospice, Quincy, Il and/or Country Aire Retirement Estates in Lewistown, MO. Arrangements are being made under the direction of Coder Funeral Home in LaBelle, MO.
