Margaret Anne Parrish, age 79 of Edina, MO, passed away Saturday, November 10, 2018, at her home east of Edina. She was born November 23, 1938, in rural Hurdland, MO, the daughter of Perley and Nina Letha Stice Shaver. She was united in marriage to Benjamin Hubert Parrish on December 1, 1957, in the Methodist Church at Hurdland, MO. He preceded her in death on November 14, 1983. Margaret was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister Mary Howerton, a brother Johnnie Shaver, an infant brother at birth, a nephew Roger Applegate and two brothers-in-law Leon Applegate and Richard James.
Surviving are one daughter Kathy Lynne (Dennis) Decker of Fond Du Lac, WI, two grandchildren, Nathan Decker and his wife Megan Rasmussen of Neenah, WI and Aaron Decker of Madison, WI, two sisters Mae Applegate of Leonard, MO, and Shirley James of Durant, OK, a brother-in-law Eugene Howerton of Prosser, WA, and several nieces and nephews.
Margaret attended Hurdland Schools, graduating from Hurdland High School. She attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, MO, receiving a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Education. She went on to receive her Master's in Education and Specialist in Education. Margaret was a lifelong resident of Knox County where she and her husband were engaged in farming east of Edina. From 1963 to 1972 she and her husband owned the Parrish Place Restaurant in LaBelle, MO. Margaret taught schools in Novelty, Knox City and Knox County High School. She completed her career in education by becoming Principal of Knox County High School and Assistant Superintendent of Knox County School District. In addition to her career in education she was a tax preparer with Knox County Bookkeeping and later Werr Accounting. After her retirement from education she was a tour director with Panorama Tours in Cape Girardeau and traveled extensively. Margaret was involved in many community activities. She was a member of the Knox County Rotary Club and Culture Club. She was a former member of the Health Department and Nutrition Site Boards, a member of the Senior Stars Band, a member of the Knox County Historical Society, and a member of the Knox City Christian Church where she was organist and Sunday School teacher.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, November 17, 2018, in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Reverend Sandy Browning will officiate the services. Burial will be in the Linville Cemetery. Music will be provided by Joanne Layman, soloist and Anita Miller, organist.
Casket bearers will be David Hatfield, Allen Hatfield, Bill Davis, Steve Applegate, Mike Applegate, and Gary Applegate.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 16, 2018, after 4 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO.
