Memorial Service

Lola M Mumford
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our mother on February 4, 2026. In five days, Mom would have been 94 years old. Lola lived on a farm outside of Colony, MO for almost 70 years and then resided in Kirksville.
Mom loved life. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her greatest joy came from her knowledge of her God Jehovah, telling others about him and serving as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Lola was born in her parent’s home in rural Scotland County on February 9, 1932 to Garland and Laura Trent, the youngest of five children. At the age of 15, she married Wayne Mumford. Together they worked at raising their family and creating a farming partnership with her brother Robert Trent and his wife Eileen, forming Mumford & Trent Farms.
Lola was the proud mother of two children, Monty Mumford and his wife Ruth; Jada Steelman and her husband Paul; and one grandchild, Hattie Stieferman and her husband James. Her husband, Wayne, preceded her in death along with her brothers Robert Trent and Frank Trent; sisters Mona Tague, Norma Burrus and baby sister Leta Marie Trent. She is survived by her children, granddaughter, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Lola loved her family, loved to bake and cook. If there was a special cake or pie or dish that you liked, she would make it. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, sharing meals, laughter and love. Mom was a dedicated grandmother who loved having sleepovers with Hattie, spending special times watching their favorite movies and shows.
When not helping on the family farm, she was a busy Avon lady for over 30 years, earning many sales awards and she loved visiting with the many friends she made. If it was purple, she loved it! She was always ready to stop at a yard sale or go shopping. In her 70’s, she was able to explore her love of travel by going to Hawaii, New York, Virginia, California, Florida and many other places.
Lola kept a diary from the age of 13 which helps us to treasure her life and many adventures. Her unwavering faith in a paradise earth, and the hope of a resurrection are bible truths that sustained her all of her life. We will greatly miss our mom and grandma.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 1:00 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 300 W. Brewington Ave, Kirksville, MO.
