Letha Florence McPherson, age 86, of Edina, Missouri, passed away Friday, November 27, 2009, in the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, Missouri. She was born in Illinois on May 21, 1923, the daughter of John Truman and Matilda Harrington Balfour. On November 4, 1945, at Kahoka, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Stephen Eugene McPherson and he preceded her in death on February 25, 1993. Also preceding her in death were her parents, one daughter Linda McPherson, two siblings in infancy, four brothers, Russell, Joe, Lawrence and Herschel Balfour, and one sister Margaret Adams. Surviving are two children, Stephen Brett McPherson and wife Elaine of LaBelle, Missouri, and Peggy Sue McPherson of Edina, Missouri, three grandchildren Joshua Douglas and wife Michelle, Rachel Mowrey and husband Bryan and Katie McPherson, two great grandchildren, Ella and Simon Mowrey, two sisters, Emma Smith of Memphis, Missouri, Loretta Walter of LaBelle, Missouri, and several nieces and nephews. Florence attended school in Illinois, graduated from High School at Rutledge, Missouri and graduated from Quincy Beauty Academy. After the death of her mother in 1932 she and her brothers and sisters were separated and sent to various homes while their father searched for employment. The family was eventually reunited and moved to a farm near Rutledge, Missouri. After their marriage in 1945 Florence and her husband lived in Rutledge until 1958 when they moved to Edina, Missouri. Florence owned and operated Florence's Beauty Shop in Edina for 45 years. She was a member of the Rutledge Christian Church and later joined the Edina United Methodist Church in Edina. Florence enjoyed flowers, gardening, cooking, sewing and spending time with her family and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at the Rutledge New Testment Church in Rutledge, Missouri. Reverend Dan Hite will officiate the services. Burial will be in the South Bethel Cemetery Northwest of Rutledge, Missouri. Music will be provided by JoAnne Layman, soloist and Anita Miller, organist. Musical selections will be "Softly and Tenderly" and "Old Rugged Cross". Visitation will be Monday, November 30, 2009, after 4 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. till 8 p.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home.
