Obituary

Larry N. "Pete" Simmons, age 73 of Plevna, MO passed away at his home late Monday afternoon, October 15, 2018.

Born April 20, 1945 in rural Leonard, MO he was a son of Arthur Willis and Annie Blanche Shofstall Simmons.  On November 16, 1979 he was united in marriage to Brenda L. Goodson.

Surviving are his wife, Brenda of Plevna, MO; three children, Angela Norvill and Keith of Pueblo, CO, Jeff Miller and Callie of Ashland, MO and Amanda Frost and friend, Jason of LaBelle, MO; eleven grandchildren, Kassidy, Kylie, Addison and Kenedi Norvill, Amber Rice and Chris, Tanner, Carter, Parker and Autumn Miller, Jace Frost and Teagan Harvey; three great grandchildren, Evie, Reina and Gabriel Rice; one sister, Shirley Stout and Joe Don of Newark, MO; three brothers, Bob Simmons of Edina, MO; Darrell Simmons & Gaila of Novelty, MO and Gary Simmons and Debbie of LaPlata, MO; a sister-in-law, Donna Faye Simmons of Novelty, MO; his father and mother in law, Larry and Doris Goodson of Knox City, MO; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Kent, Kevin, Ronnie and Glenn Simmons and one sister, Mary Lou Simmons.

Pete received his education at the Rhodes Rural School in Knox County, Plevna and graduated from the Novelty High School in 1963.  He served his country in the United States Army and the Army Reserves from 1964 through 1970.  He was a member of the Darrel L. Knauer American Legion Post of Plevna.

Pete was employed by the Missouri Department of Transportation for many years until his retirement.  He then went to work for the Knox County Road and Bridge Department and was also engaged in farming.  Pete enjoyed life.  He was a Cardinals baseball fan, he and Kim Smith competed in tractor pulls with the Owl Creek Special, he did a lot of welding, built things for folks, he was a professional tinker in his workshop and he was also a gardener.   Pete loved to visit, play cards, tell stories and history; there was no stranger in his life.  Most of all though he loved his family, kids, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends which were the center of his life.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 19, 2018 at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral in Edina, MO with Reverend Reese Blaine officiating.

Burial will be in the Novelty Cemetery at Novelty, MO with military honors provided by the MO Military Honors Team.  Casket bearers will be Kim Smith, Larry Lumley, Darrell Simmons, Randy Simmons, Bob Simmons, Gary Simmons, Tim Caldwell and Jeff Miller.  Honorary bearers will be Harold Echternacht, Mike Taylor, Ray Prebe, Tim Couch and the Knox County Road and Bridge Employees

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 18, 2018 after 4:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO.

Memorials in memory of Larry "Pete" Simmons may be made to the Ira Barclay American Legion Post #290 of Novelty or to the Plevna Christian Church.  The memorials may be left at or mailed to Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1, Edina, MO 63537.
