Justina Louise Cornelius Hinds, 85, of Columbia, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 11, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina, MO. Burial will be in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. The family would welcome visitors at a luncheon at the Knights of Columbus Hall following the burial, or at a brief visitation from 10:00-11:00 before the funeral mass.
Tina was born in Kirksville, MO on January 25, 1940, the only child of Justina M. Hayes and Richard B. Cornelius, of Edina. She attended grade school at St. Joseph Catholic School and graduated from Edina High School in 1958. She attended St. Mary's College in South Bend, IN.
She married David Hinds, also of Edina, on December 27, 1959, at St. Joseph Church in Edina. They recently celebrated their 65th anniversary
After stops in Columbia and Kansas City, they raised their children in Hannibal, MO, where Tina was an amazing mother, school volunteer, 4-H horsemanship leader, Cub Scout den mother, sports booster, hospital auxiliary member and member of the Hannibal Catholic Parish. Tina was an avid and accomplished duplicate bridge player, achieving her goal of becoming a Life Master, accumulating enough points to accomplish the feat several times over.
As her children grew older, Tina became a successful real estate agent. Having never met a stranger, she always said there was nothing better than people and houses. After moving to Ogden,Utah in 1983, she served on the executive board of the Northern Utah Board of Realtors and became one or the top producing realtors in the area. In Ogden, Tina and Dave enjoyed skiing, hiking and many adventures with their Newcomers club. She skied weekly at Snowbasin and attended Holy Family Catholic Church. Boating vacations at Lake Powell and Bear Lake were among her favorites.
They followed their first grandchildren back to Missouri in 1990 and have lived in Columbia for the last 35 years. She continued her real estate career and doted on her grandchildren. She was a member of King's Daughters, Midas Maids investment club, Columbia Duplicate Bridge Club and attended St. Thomas More Newman Center. Tina and her family enjoyed regular trips to Lake of the Ozarks, where Tina and Dave first vacationed together in 1960.
Tina was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Tina Cornelius, and in-laws Uel Lee "Buddy" and Helene Salzenstein Hinds.
Tina is survived by daughter, Jane Hinds of Columbia; son, David (Judy) Hinds of Hannibal; daughter, Donna (Andrew) Gaynor of Luxembourg City, Luxembourg; son Gary (Kim) Hinds of Plain City, Utah; and son-in-law Luiz Costa Pinto of Columbia; grandchildren Jeff (Alisha) Hinds of Jefferson City; Tom (Leanne) Hinds of Hannibal; Zachary (Jennifer) Hinds of Monroe City; Caroline (fiancé Drew) Costa of St. Louis; and Aimee, Morgan and Matt Hinds of Plain City, Utah.
Tina is also survived by her great grandchildren Caden and Harper Hinds of Jefferson City; Carter and Gavin Hinds of Hannibal; and Bailee (Gatlin) Bichsel, Reagan Turpin and Addilynn Hinds of Monroe City; as well as beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tina's honor to St. Joseph Improvement Foundation or the Alzheimer's Association.
The family thanks Tina's loving caregivers at Lenoir Senior Living and Gentiva Hospice Care. Arrangements will be made by Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home of Edina.
