Obituary
Joseph Earl Young, age 91 of Sun Lakes, AZ formerly of Edina, MO passed away, Thursday, September 8, 2016 at the Hospice of the Valley in Chandler, AZ.
Joe was born July 7, 1925 in Clifton City, MO to Lawrence F. and Katherine Beck Young. He was united in marriage to Geraldine M. Marx of Springfield, IL on July 24, 1948.
During World War II Joe served in the United States Navy October 15, 1943 through May 7, 1946. Joe was a respected businessman in the Edina community where he had owned and operated the IGA Foodliner for many years. He was a partner in The Blue Room in Edina, he created "The Shopper", an advertising publication, and was active with fundraisers for the community. Joe was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Edina, the Knights of Columbus, the Edina Country Club and the Baring County Club. Joe was an avid golfer and loved hunting and fishing.
Mr. Young was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Charles "Pete" Young and Jim Young.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Geraldine Young of Sun Lakes, AZ; a daughter, Karen Coughlin and husband, Sid of Madisonville, KY; three sons, Terry Young and wife, Susan of Sun Lakes, AZ, Larry Young and wife, Jacquine of Mesa, AZ and Denny Young and wife, Kathy of Morganfield, KY; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina, MO. Father Colin Franklin will officiate the services. Beth Fry will be the organist and Kathy Young will be the vocalist. Grandchildren will be casket bearers. Honorary bearers will be Dr. Steve Barber, Russell Coates, Bruce Normile, John Briscoe, Dick Johnson, John Thomas and Dudley Gillaspy.
Visitation will be held 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, Sept. 16, 2016 at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina. A prayer service will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will full military honors will be at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at Edina, MO.
