Obituary

Joseph Daniel Benedict, age 88 of Edina, MO passed away at Blessing Hospital Wednesday evening, October 24, 2018.

Born April 8, 1930 in Keokuk, IA. He was the son of Frank Daniel Benedict and Garnett (Schaffer) Benedict. On July 13, 1957 he was united in marriage to Georgia M Swenson in Rockford, IL.

Surviving are two children, David & (Lauzanne) Benedict of Knox City, MO and Nettie Joann & (Tom) Dunne of Galesburg, IL; two step-children, John Trites Sr. and Diane Vance of Rockford, IL; one sister, Jackie Winn of Keokuk, IA; one brother, John Baxter of Keokuk, IA; grandchildren, Stephanie, Sarah, Sandra and Joseph Benedict, Joanne & (Brion) Nesmith, Janice & (Jeff) Hill, John & (Judy) Trites Jr., Debbie & (Josh) Tobiason, Kevin & (Shawna) Burns, Tony Dunne, Terri Ransom, Tamara Nordeen, Debra McCullough and Amelia St. Clair; and many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers, Arthur Benedict, Edward Benedict, Sr., William Benedict, Sr., four sisters, Lois Holmes, Judy Baxter, Carolyn Schultz and Vesta Todd and two grandsons, Daniel Benedict and Thomas Dunne III.

Joseph grew up in Keokuk, IA. In 1947, he enlisted in the United States Army and served as a military policeman in the 209 th Military Police Company until 1952. He was stationed in Japan and Korea. After serving his country, Joseph moved to Rockford, IL and went to work for Wilson & Kula Heating and Air Conditioning. In 1974, he and his son David started their own business, Benedict & Sons Heating & Air Conditioning. Joseph and his son worked together until his retirement in 1992. Joseph enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family and friends.

A private memorial service will be held later at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO.
