Obituary
John S. Simmons, Jr., 72, of Center, Missouri, died at 10:48 p.m., Thurs., Mar. 12, 2009, at his home.
Mr. Simmons was born May 28, 1936, at Hunnewell, Missouri to John S. and Beulah I. Walker Simmons.
He first married JoAnn Clary Simmons Cooley and she preceded him in death. He married Nancy Carol Buford Woinicz at Center, Feb. 15, 1990, and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Jamey (Beth) Simmons, of New London, Missouri, Jason Simmons, of Quincy, Illinois, stepson, Dean Joseph Woinicz, of Columbia, Mo., two grandchildren, Austin Simmons and Nash Simmons, of New London, three sisters, Barbara Jane Simmons, of Downey, California, Jeanne Perrigo and Rose (Terry) Marble, both of Edina, Missouri, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
John retired in 1991 from Gardner Denver in Quincy after 35 years as a machinist. He was a 50 year member of the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers. He graduated from Edina High School, Class of 1954. John was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the LaBelle Christian Church. He was very fond of gas and oil memorabilia and old cars. John formerly owned and operated the Country Station Campground and Boat Storage on Hwy EE at Mark Twain Lake. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2009, at Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri, Pastor Tom Day, officiating. Burial will be Mt. Salem Cemetery, west of Newark, Missouri.
Musical selections will be "Go Rest High On That Mountain" and "When I get Where I'm Going".
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, Mar. 15, 2009, at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel in Hannibal, Missouri and from noon until time of services Monday, Mar. 16, 2009, at Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.
Memorials may be made to the James E. Cary Cancer Center in Hannibal, Missouri. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1, Edina, Missouri, 63537.
