John David Holdren, age 70, of Baring, MO, passed away Friday, July 15, 2016, in the Veterans Hospital in Columbia, MO. He was born in Richland, MO on October 21, 1945, the son of Robert Davis and Vera Marie Mitschele Holdren.
He was united in marriage to Roberta Lincoln and they had five children. On July 31, 2004, he was united in marriage to Shelia Kay West at Edina, MO.
Surviving are his wife Shelia of Baring, MO, five children, Stephanie (Randy) VanMeter of Boise, ID, Melanie (Teddy) Buettner of St. Edwards, NE, Patricia Holdren of Elmont, NE, Diane Holdren of Kansas City, MO, and Brenda (Bill) Komma of Topeka, KS, two brothers William Robert (Joyce) Holdren of Baring, MO, Jack (Elaine) Holdren of Omaha, NE, three sisters Shirley (Dale) Mesecher of Burlington, IA, Lenora (John) Flynn of Baring, MO, and Mary Lou (Clinton) Jerome of Kirksville, MO, a sister-in-law Leanna Holdren of Baring, MO, fifteen grandchildren, eight greatgrandchildren, numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, Mother-in-law Carol Anderson and several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Joe Holdren and one granddaughter.
John graduated from Baring High School in 1963. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1966. John lived in Omaha, NE for several years where he was employed in the Omaha National Bank and also owned and operated a Skelly Station. He then moved to Truman, AR, where he was employed with a Firestone Store. He then moved back to Baring, MO in 1977, where he presently resides. John was a member of the Knox Co Memorial Post # 4822 V.F.W. He did small engine repair, was a 4-H leader and baseball coach. He enjoyed people, hunting, gardening, canning and spending time with family.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2016, in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Burial with full military honors will be held in the Slocum Cemetery west of Greensburg, MO. Officiating the services will be Reverend Dennis Pollard.
Casket bearers will be Richard Witherow, Richard Clark, Richard Hitchcock, Kevin Holdren, Kelly Holdren and Joey Holdren.
Honorary bearers will be Justin Albers, Jeremy Albers, Christopher Dickey, Austin Dickey, Brandon Morehouse and Brendan Komma.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 20, 2016, from 9 a.m. till time of services at 11 a.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO.
