Obituary

Joe Allen Moyer, age 81, of Hurdland, MO, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2023 in Kirksville, MO. He was born Nov. 20, 1941, the only son of Cleta (Powell) and Joe Moyer. He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Louise (Hall) Moyer, both parents, and his infant son Joe Anthony Moyer.

Surviving are his wife Bonnie (Henderson) of Kirksville, MO, (married 2018), his daughter Lynnette and son-in-law Vince McGuire of Elsberry, MO. Two grandchildren, Aaron (Angela) McGuire of Lakewood, CO and Caitlyn McGuire of Elsberry, MO also several cousins.

Joe Allen graduated from Novelty high school in 1959 after attending elementary in the one room school house named Mote (found southwest of Novelty). He attended Northeast Missouri State University (Truman State) receiving both his bachelors and master's degrees in secondary education. He married Nancy Louise Hall in 1962 and taught math in the Moberly, MO school district before the family moved to their farm near Locust Hill, MO.

Joe farmed with his father, taught math at NMSU (1982 -2004), and continued farming until his passing. Throughout his life Joe Allen was an avid hunter and fisherman, and an active member of the community serving on both Knox County Nutrition Center and Mark Twain Telephone Boards. He was also a member of Locust Hill Community Church and Mt. Tabor Primitive Baptist Church.

Joe loved traveling. Adventures included white water rafting, road trips to Alaska, a mule ride into and out of the Grand Canyon (which he also had walked) and whale watching on both coasts. He had visited all but two states in the Continental U.S. and had plans to check them off as well with Bonnie this summer.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2023, in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO.  Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. and services will begin at 11 a.m.

Elder Alan Curtis will officiate the services.  Burial will be in the Locust Hill Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be John David Parsons, Kent Stokes, Matt Weiss, Aaron McGuire, Vince McGuire and Ben Bradley.  Honorary bearers will be Billy Joe Wilkerson and Brett Wilkerson.

Memorials are suggested to the Locust Hill Cemetery and may be left at or mailed to the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1, Edina, MO 63537.
