Obituary

James Richard McMurry, Sr., age 78, of Rutledge, MO, passed away Friday, July 12, 2013, in the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, MO.
He was born July 28, 1934, at Colony, MO, the son of James Raymond and Josephine McMurry.
He was united in marriage to Geraldine Kay Rudicil on May 4, 1963, and to this union three children were born; Sallie Jo Applegate and Roger of Plevna, MO, Gerald Raymond (Jerry Ray) McMurry of Rutledge, MO, and James Richard McMurry, Jr. (Jammie) of Edina, MO. He was united in marriage to Dasiy Swearingen of July 15, 2003.
He is survived by his three children, his previous spouses and good friends, Geraldine and Daisy, two sisters Doris Jean Fetters of Virginia and Betty Carol Goodwin of Knox City, MO, two grandchildren, Bryson Applegate and wife Anna, and Ashley Kelly and husband Evan, two great grandchildren, Bella Green and Aiden Applegate, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. McMurry was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Alice Margie Pearl, and one half sister Lois in infancy.
James received his education in Colony and Knox City, MO and served his country in the United States Army. He was employed in road construction till 1970 and worked as a mechanic for Earl Dromey and later Massey Ferguson. James was also engaged in farming in the Rutledge area. James enjoyed cutting wood, fishing, mushroom hunting, farming, spending time with his dogs, and helping people as a mechanic.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Reverend Russell Otte will officiate the services.
Burial with full Military Honors will be in the Colony Cemetery conducted by Knox City American Legion Post.
Musical selections will be Daddy's Hands, Old Rugged Cross and One Piece At A Time.
Casket bearers will be Bobby Goodwin, Dennis Goodwin, Randy Redding, Joe Moore, Randy Shaver and Jeremy Johnston.
Honorary bearers will be Byron Fowler, Leon Applegate and Jerry Shultz.
Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013, with family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO.
