Obituary

Jacob Ronald “Ronnie” Peterson, age 74, of Colony community, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2026 in Iowa City, IA. He was born July 29, 1951, in Kirksville, MO the son of Jacob Price “Jakie” and Virginia Mae Elder Peterson. He was married to Diane McSorley and to this union one son was born Aaron Todd Peterson. On May 21, 1983 in Mexico, MO he was united in marriage to Nancy Kay Meyer.

Ronnie is survived by his wife Nancy Peterson of Gorin, MO, his mother Virginia May Peterson of Gorin, MO, two children Grant (Elisha) Peterson of Barnhart, MO and Anne Peterson of Marceline, MO, one sister Patricia Lynn Peterson of Gorin, MO, and one brother, Wallace Richard (Tallulah) Peterson of St. Charles, MO, six grandchildren Kaitlin and Keegan Peterson, Dylan, Brody and Lucas Peterson and Iris Smith, one great grandchild Colden Peterson and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his father and one son Aaron Todd Peterson.

Ronnie graduated from Knox County High School and Northeast Missouri State University (Truman State University) in Kirksville, MO with a degree in Ag Economics. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Ronnie was one of those responsible for the placement of the Vietnam Era Memorial at the Court House. Ronnie was engaged in farming most of his life in the Colony area. He always said he was fortunate to live in the muscle car era and enjoyed driving his 1969 Dodge Dart. Ronnie was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Knox County V.F.W. Memorial Post # 4822 and Knox City American Legion Post # 358. Ronnie enjoyed visiting with his friends at the coffee shop.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2026, in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina, MO. Officiating will be Father Boniface Kasita Nzabonimpa and Father Rob Fields. Bell ringers will be Lucas Peterson, Iris Smith and Laura Pipta.

Music will be provided by Carol Fox and Lisa Bowen. Burial with Full Military Honors will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery conducted by Missouri Military Honors Team, Cyril Graham American Legion Post # 291, Knox County Memorial V.F.W. Post # 4822 and Knox City American Legion Post # 358.

A Prayer service will be held Monday, March 9, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO, with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Casket bearers will be Virgil Doss, Ed Bryant, Chad York, Dylan Peterson, Brody Peterson and Matthew Matlock.

Honorary bearers will be Kenny Clatt, George Peterson, Joe Paul, Bob Ward and Leon Moots.
