Harry Pearl Oldfather, age 78, of Edina, Missouri, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2010, in the Northeast Regional medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri. He was born at his family home south of Edina on August 23, 1931, the son of Fred D. and Ida E. Strickler Oldfather. On November10, 1951, he was united in marriage to Helen Marie Hayes at Quincy, Illinois. Surviving is his wife Helen Oldfather of rural Edina, Missouri, two children, Harry Lee Oldfather and wife Diane and Connie Early and husband Billy all of Edina, Missouri, one sister Ruth Zuspann and husband Vernon of Edina, Missouri, five grandchildren Misty Miller and husband Bill, Kelli Beckmann and husband Kurt, Shelby Oldfather, Melissa Doty and husband Daryl, Jeremy Holman and wife Karie, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Harry was preceded in death by his parents. Harry was raised in Knox County where he received his education graduating from the Novelty High School in 1949. He lived his entire life south of Edina where he was engaged in trucking and farming. Harry served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952 till 1953. He enjoyed motorcycling, camping, was an avid card player, and most of all spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many friends. Harry was a member of Ira Barklay American Legion Post # 290 at Novelty, Missouri, and the First Christian Church at Edina, Missouri. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 15, 2010, at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home at Edina, Missouri. Reverend Ken Beckmann will officiate the services. Burial with full Military Honors will be in Park View Memorial Gardens at Kirksville, Missouri. Music will be provided by Chuckie and Jenna Hayes singing "Eighteen Wheeler and A Dozen Roses" and "How Great Thou Art" and Carol Hayes, organist and Nancy Stice, soloist singing Daddy's Hands and Grandpa. Casket bearers will be Jeremy Holman, Bill Miller, Kurt Beckmann, Daryl Doty, Albert Hagerla, and Bill Baker. Honorary bearers will be Bill Delaney, Kim Smith, Tim Caldwell, Kyle Stout and the Wednesday night card players. Visitation will be Sunday, February 14, 2010, after 4 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri. Memorials may be made to the Ira Barklay American Post # 290 at Novelty, Knox County Library, Knox County Relay for Life or charity of the Donor's Choice.
