Obituary

Gerald James Barnes, age 73, of Edina, MO, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2011, at his home in Edina.
He was born in Edina, MO, January 17, 1938, the son of Claude Franklin and Selma Fay Lancaster Barnes.
He was united in marriage to Nancy June Meeks on April 10, 1960, at Edina, MO.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Nancy June Barnes of Edina, MO, three children, Brenda Strange of Edina, MO, Jimmy Barnes and wife Sharon of Novinger, MO, and Richard Barnes and wife Teresa of LaPlata, MO, eight brothers and sisters, Derrel Barnes of Kirksville, MO, Carol Purdin and husband Stanley Lee of Hurdland, MO, Donna Patterson of Kirksville, MO, Harold Barnes and wife Linda of Wright City, MO, Sandra Hoskins of Hurdland, MO, Kay Barnes of Edina, MO, Larry Barnes of Edina, MO, Ronnie Barnes and wife Jana of Kirksville, MO, eight grandchildren, John Strange and wife Kim of Macon, MO, Eric, Todd and Mark Strange of Knox City, MO, Juston Barnes and Mindy of Kirksville, MO, Shyanne and Kylea Barnes of Fulton, MO, Lexi Barnes of LaPlata, MO, four great grandchildren, Eliza Strange of Edina, MO, Ava and Paisley Barnes of Kirksville, MO, and Addison Strange of Macon, MO, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Claude Jr. and Richard Barnes, and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
Gerald received his education at Bible Grove and Brashear Schools. He drove a truck for Hathaway Trucking at Greensburg, MO, farmed for Bud Archer west of Greensburg, MO and lived and farmed near Rutledge, MO for several years. In 1964, he moved to Edina, where he was employed with Cornelius Allis-Chalmers, Marbles Ready Mix, Gillaspy and Kincaid John Deere and for Knox County where he drove a rock truck and maintainer. Gerald was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Christian Church, past member of the Edina Gun Club, a past member of the Sowbellies Ball Team, and a fifty year member of Greensburg Masonic Lodge # 414 A.F. & A.M. Gerald was an awesome husband, father, and grandfather. He loved hunting and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Officiating will be Reverend Dewayne Wellborn assisted by Steve Miller. Music will be provided by Rita Worthington, organist and Wynona Banks, soloist.
Casket bearers will be Darrell Rudd, Tim McCauley, David Walker, Ryan Parton, Brian Primm, Jim Parrish, Kurt Goodwin, Phillip Spory and Tim Couch. Honorary bearers will be his grandchildren's.
Visitation will be held Monday, September 5, 2011, after 4 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8p.m. Masonic Rites will be held at 8 p.m. Monday evening in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO.
