Gary Lee McCabe, age 67, of Edina, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.
He was born June 26, 1941, in Lewis County, Missouri, the son of James Henry and Alice Leigh McCabe.
Surviving are one brother, David McCabe of Knox City, Missouri, nieces and nephews, Tina Lonberger, Tommy McCabe and wife LeAnn, Joe McCabe and wife Carson, Todd McCabe and wife Maria, Jamie McCabe, Jennifer Holland, Rachel Patterson, several great nieces and nephews, and several cousins.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, J.J. McCabe and one sister, Virginia Patterson and one great nephew Tyler Lonberger.
Gary graduated from Edina High School. He served his country in the United States Navy. He was employed for several years at Western Auto in Edina, Missouri. He also owned and operated The Spot Tavern in Edina, Missouri and for several years was employed in Texas and Louisiana in construction burying telephone cable.
Gary loved hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the Knox County Memorial Post # 4822 V.F.W. and a member of the First Christian Church in Edina, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2009, at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri. The Reverend Dewayne Wellborn will officiate the services. Burial with full military honors will be in the Veterans Garden of Honor in Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville, Missouri.
Visitation will be Friday, June 19, 2009, after 4 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.
