Fred Lee Kinsel, age 83, of Edina, MO, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at his home in Edina. He was born April 27, 1931, in Edina, MO, the son of John Louis and Edna May Layman Kinsel.
He was united in marriage to Agnes Eileen Ten Eyck on November 23, 1958, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina, MO and she preceded him in death on May 31, 2005. Fred was also preceded in death by his parents, one son Ronald Lee Kinsel and two brothers Howard Louis Kinsel and John William Kinsel.
Surviving are five children, six grandchildren and five step-grandchildren, Randy Kinsel and wife Melody and their daughter Kristy of Rogers, AR, James Kinsel and wife Brenda and their children Hillary and Alex of Maywood, MO, Barry Kinsel and wife Bonnie and their children Jordan, Jamie, Bill, William, Josh & Ben of Hannibal, MO, Stephen Kinsel of Rogers, AR, and Kathleen Booth and husband Jeremy and their children Jillian and Corbin of Clarksville, MO, two brothers Paul Everett Kinsel of Edina, MO and George Robert Kinsel of Carbondale, IL, sister-in-law Betty Kinsel of Edina, MO, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Paul and Cheryl Ten Eyck of Springfield, IL, sister-in-law Roberta Ten Eyck of Lewistown, MO and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Fred received his education in Edina where he graduated from Edina High School in 1949. He served his country in the United States Air force from 1951 to 1955, obtaining the rank of Airman First Class. During this time he also played the trumpet in the Air Force band.
Fred was a devoted Methodist and a lifelong member of the Edina United Methodist Church, where he was active in the choir and providing special music.
Fred began his career operating a house-to-house dairy delivery service and later operated two dairy stores along with his brother Paul, one in Edina and one in Kirksville, MO. In addition he delivered milk to the local area schools. He later opened and operated a refrigeration and air conditioning sales and service business in Edina with his son Randy. Fred worked for several years in the maintenance department at Truman State University. He was also employed for several years at the Knox County Court House as a custodian.
Fred enjoyed many childhood memories growing up along the Missouri River in Jefferson City, playing along the cliffs and collecting scrap metal.
Fred had a special place in his heart for his father, whom he remarked many times "was the smartest man I ever knew." Fred had one love in his life which was his wife Eileen; together they took pleasure in raising six children while always stressing the importance of strong moral values and a solid work ethic. He had a great love of music and enjoyed playing the trumpet.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2014, in the Edina United Methodist Church. Pastor Sam Smith will officiate the services. Burial will be in the Linville Cemetery.
Music will be provided by Carol Hayes, organist and Brent Karhoff, soloist. Musical selections will be "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art".
Casket bearers will be Randy Kinsel, James Kinsel, Barry Kinsel, Stephen Kinsel, Jeremy Booth, Jordan Kinsel and Alex Kinsel.
Honorary bearers will be Paul Kinsel, Bob Kinsel, Michael Kinsel, David Jones, Jim Gibbons and Billy Mallett.
Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2014, with family receiving friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO.
