Dorothy Stryganek, age 89 of Edina, MO, passed away May 22, 2014, in the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO.
She was born in Germany on August 30, 1924, the daughter of Conrad and Anna Schott Schmidt. She was united in marriage to Jan Stryganek on June 1, 1946, in Germany and he preceded her in death on May 20, 2008.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers.
Surviving are one son Karl Schmidt and wife Terry of Elkin, N.C., one brother and one sister in Germany, two grandchildren Jon Schmidt and Todd Schmidt and wife Brandi, two step granddaughters Joy Dixon and Lori Pendry, two great grandchildren Gunnar and Hayden Schmidt, four step great grandchildren Coleman Mathis, Addison, Drew and Eliza Pendry, and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy received her education in Germany. She and her husband moved to Edina in 1956, where they have lived ever since. Dorothy was a seamstress in Germany and Edina. She loved shopping and was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina.
Visitation will be held Sunday, May 25, 2014, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Private graveside services will be held at a later date in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Conducted by Father Joseph Hoi.
