Obituary

Dorothy Verlee Dauma, age 102, of Stronghurst, IL formerly of Scotland County, MO passed away Friday, May 10, 2024, in Stronghurst, IL.

She was born July 31, 1921, in Scotland, County, MO, near Gorin, the eldest daughter of Glen Allen and Helen Modena Kutzner Chambers.  She was united in marriage to Harley Wayne Dauma on November 12, 1941 by Reverend Lett at Luray, MO.

Surviving are two sons, Kenneth Allen Dauma and his wife Esther of Kansas City, MO, Stephen Scott Dauma and his wife Laurie of Soap Lake WA, five grandchildren, Michael Dauma, Kerry Dauma, Anthony Dauma and wife Robin, Valori Elliot and Lisa Dauma, plus special friend, Susan Miller, seven great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Verlee was preceded in death by her husband Harley on March 23, 2012, her parents, her son, Jon Adrian Chambers Dauma and daughter-in-law Mary L. Dauma, a grandson, Shane Scott Dauma and three sisters, Marjorie Anita Hatfield and husband Lemuel Hatfield, Virginia Woods and husband Ivan of Memphis, MO, and Glenna Tolliver and husband John of St. Peters, MO.

Verlee attended grade school at Cedar Grove northwest of Gorin and graduated from Gorin High School in 1939.  Verlee and her family lived in Iowa, Missouri, Colorado and Illinois, living there for forty years, then returning to Scotland County in 1991.  Verlee worked in Gates Rubber Plant in Denver in the Stationary Supply department for a time.  She also worked in a garment company as an inspector, and in a bank as a teller.

Verlee was an avid family researcher and genealogist.  She belonged to a number of Genealogical societies, usually in the same state where she was researching.  She was a charter member of the Scotland County Genealogy Scoiety and the Warren County, IL Genealogical Society.  She was a member of the Jauflione Chapter NSDAR in Memphis, MO, serving as registrar for nineteen years.   She was also a member of the National Society for New England Women.  Verlee was the author of six family genealogies and was always excited about doing family research.   Several of her publications are in the National Archives in Washington, D.C.

Verlee also loved her family and her Lord. Verlee accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of seventeen.  She loved reading, growing beautiful flowers, and traveling.  Their travels included most of the states and a trip to Hawaii and Canada.

Memorial services will be held Monday, May 20, 2024, at 2 PM, in the First Baptist Church in Memphis, MO.   Visitation will be held from 1 pm to 2 pm Monday, May 20th, at the First Baptist Church in Memphis.

Reverend Josh Black will officiate the services.  Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery at Gorin, MO.

Musical selections will be "He Touched Me" and "It Is Well With My Soul", and a congregational hymn, "Bless Be The Tie That Binds".

Visitation will be held from 1 pm to 2 pm Monday, May 20th, at the First Baptist Church in Memphis.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church in Memphis, MO.  Memorials may be left at the Church or mailed to Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1, Edina, MO 63537.
