Obituary

Doris Stone, age 93, of Edina, Missouri, passed away Friday, June 7, 2013, at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.
Born December 12, 1919, in the Bee Ridge Community in Knox County, Missouri, she was a twin daughter of Pearl and Mary A. (Roush) Lewis.
On August 5, 1940, in Greensburg, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Harold Ray Stone. He preceded her in death on May 13, 1988, after forty-eight years of marriage.
Mrs. Stone attended rural schools in Knox County and LaBelle, Missouri. In her early years, she was employed by an implement and automobile company owned by her father, Pearl Lewis, and his partner, E.F. Allen. Here she met her husband, Harold, and they were engaged in farming, both east and south of Edina, most of their lives. In 1995, she moved to Edina to make her home.
Doris had a very special bond with her identical twin sister, Dorlene. They enjoyed dressing alike throughout their lives. Doris was a lifelong member of the Edina Assembly of God Church, and together with her sister, she directed the church's Cradle Roll Ministry for many years. Doris served her church in many ways, and was also a past member of the Musser and Mount Carmel Extension Clubs.
She enjoyed playing the piano, singing, working in her yard and garden, cooking, and canning. She lovingly crocheted and created many afghans, booties, and needlework projects for her family. She also enjoyed family gatherings and reunions. Along with her husband, Harold, she established a legacy of faith in Christ for her family.
Mrs. Stone was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two sisters: Dorlene (Clifford) Hagerla and Hortense (Rev. Lawrence) Spratt.
Surviving are her son and his wife, Karen Ray and Rose Ella Stone of Edina, Missouri. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren: Lynn (Steve) Hicks, Lori (Jason) Choate, and Rodney (Emily) Stone; eight great-grandchildren: Laden (Jordan) Force, Brianna Force, Stephanie Hicks, Keenan Gillaspy, Carrie Choate, Kellen Gillaspy, Andrew Choate, and Dylan Stone; three great-great grandchildren: Mallory Griffin, Adalynn Griffin, and Stone Force. Also surviving are a brother-in-law, Darrel J. (Yvonne) Stone, and dozens of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. Monday morning (June 10, 2013) at Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel, Edina, Missouri. Pastor Rick Barnes & Reverend Jerry Spratt will conduct the services. Music will be provided by Rev. Patsy Spratt singing, "Serenaded by Angels", and Debbie Peters, Audrey Hamlin, & LeaAnn Hamlin, singing "I Won't Have to Worry Anymore." They will be accompanied by Ed Anderson, organist. Burial will be in Park View Memorial Gardens, Kirksville. Casket bearers will be: Rodney Stone, Steve Hicks, Jason Choate, Laden Force, Keenan Gillaspy, Kellen Gillaspy, and Andrew Choate.
Visitation will be Sunday (June 9, 2013) from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to The Knox County Nutrition Center or Edina Assembly of God Church.
