Doris Elaine (Waibel) Murray , age 89, of Novelty, MO passed away at her home on Saturday, March 16, 2024. She was born on September 27, 1934, near Novelty, MO to Verna Oliver and Sarrah Irene (Perry) Waibel.
Doris attended elementary school at Shelbyville and Novelty and graduated as salutatorian from Novelty High School in 1952. She then attended Gem City Business College in Quincy, IL. She was united in marriage to Jim Murray on August 5, 1953. During their marriage, they and their 4 children farmed in Knox County having row crops, hay, and cattle. She kept books for the farm and served as cook and taxi driver. She later was a cook at the Knox County Nursing home. Jim preceded her in death on June 7, 2009.
Doris was baptized at the age of 15 at the Novelty Christian Church and was still a member there. She loved following her children and grandchildren in their sports and activities. She had begun to follow her great-grandchildren's activities as well, although now mostly by pictures and videos. Her favorite hobbies included reading, crossword puzzles, visiting with friends, and especially mowing yards - which she continued to do until age 87.
Doris is survived by her children: Mike (Carla) Murray, Pleasant Hill, MO; Matt (Lori) Murray, Novelty, MO; and Dianna (Willard) Otto, Cherry Box, MO. Her grandchildren are Alaina (Chris) Niedbalski, Wentzville, MO; Jonathan (Courtney) Murray, Mountain Home, AR; Benjamin (Jenni) Murray, Pleasant Hill, MO; Tyler (Shannon) Otto, Shelbyville, MO; Nolan (Laura) Otto, LaPlata, MO; Whitney Otto, Leonard, MO. Her great-grandchildren are Daxton Niedbalski of Wentzville, Kaelyn and Ashtyn Otto of Shelbyville, Emily and Morgan Otto of LaPlata, and 4 step great-grandchildren.
Doris is also survived by brother Garland Waibel of Memphis, MO, sister Wynona (Brian) Banks of Edina, MO, and sister-in-law Rita Waibel of Edina, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, daughter Candy Phillips, son-in-law Tom Phillips, brother Richard Waibel, sister Kathy Waibel (in infancy), and two nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at 1:00pm at Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel in Edina, MO. Visitation will be from 12:00-1:00pm prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Willard Otto, Tyler Otto, Nolan Otto, Chris Niedbalski, Roger Waibel, and Brian Banks. Honorary pallbearers will be Alaina Niedbalski, Whitney Otto, Shannon Otto, and Laura Otto.
Interment will be at the Locust Hill Cemetery following services.
