Donald Van (Don) McGlothlin, age 83, of Edina, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2009, while working on his farm on the west edge of Edina, Missouri. He was born on March 25, 1926, south of Hurdland, Missouri, the son of Barney and Elsie VanSickle McGlothlin. He was united in marriage to Bonnie Dee Hickman on March 14, 1953, and she preceded him in death on April 20, 2000. Also preceding him in death where his parents, one son David McGlothlin, one daughter, Donna Jean Pinson, and four brothers, Jesse, Leland, Stanton and Marion McGlothlin. Surviving are three children, Larry Ray McGlothlin of Edina, Missouri, Brian McGlothlin and wife Debbie of Marceline, Missouri, one daughter, Nancy Averill of Edina, Missouri, one daughter-in-law, Barbara Jo McGlothlin of Santee, California, one sister-in-law, Betty Hickman of Chicago, Illinois, thirteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. McGlothlin was a life long resident of Knox County. He received his education in Hurdland graduating from Hurdland High School and attended Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Missouri. Mr. McGlothlin served his country in the South Pacific during World War II in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946. He was a member of Knox County V.F.W. # 4822 and a member of the International Union of Operating engineers. Don was a fifty-nine year member of the Masonic Lodge. He joined Paulville Masonic Lodge # 319 at Hurdland, Missouri, after it closed he transferred to Colony Lodge # 168. In earlier times, Mr. McGlothlin enjoyed wood working and refinishing antiques and collectables, and training his six white mules. More recently Mr. McGlothlin cherished time spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as working on his farm, and visiting with the coffee drinkers at Casey's. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, September 27, 2009, at Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri. Reverend David Howald will officiate the services assisted by Reverend Sam Smith. Burial will be in the Linville Cemetery. Music will be provided by Nancy Reardon, organist and Jim and Kyle Clark, vocalist. Casket bearers will be Harley Hamlin, John Thomas, Donnie Davis, David Jones, C.Von Snow and Richard Clark. Honorary bearers will be Fred Kinsel, Cleo Ratliff. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2009, with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri. Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2009, in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home.
