Delores Esther Baker, age 93, of Downing, MO formerly of Knox City, MO. Passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2026, in the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, MO.
She was born in Flint, Michigan, on October 15, 1932, the daughter of Leroy and Grace Emily Lutz Canterbury. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Marion Baker on June 26, 1949 in Burlington, IA and he preceded her in death on October 11, 2021.
Delores was also preceded in death by her parents, one son Melvin Baker, a daughter-in-law Mary Baker, three sisters Evelyn Nolte, Marcella Dillard, and Virginia Cavet, and two brothers Carl and Leroy Canterbury.
Surviving are two children, Rita (Gary) Benton of Harrisburg, MO, and Fred Lee (Christine) Baker of Downing, MO, eleven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Delores received her education in Burlington, IA. She and her husband farmed in Knox and Lewis counties till moving to Downing in 1998. Delores taught Sunday school for over fifty years at the Assembly Of God Church in Knox City and the First Liberty Full Gospel Church in Kirksville, MO. She also played the piano for over 61 years and enjoyed crafts and spending time with her family.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 13, 2026 in the First Liberty Full Gospel Church in Kirksville, MO. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon and services will follow at 2 p.m. at the Church. Reverend Rick Addison will officiate the services. Burial will be in the Knox City Cemetery. Music will be provided by Beth Weilbrenner and Lisa and Brian Martin.
Casket bearers will be Larry Baker, Scott Cooper, Harvey Borntrager, David Weilbrenner, Brian Martin and Travis Pinson.
