Obituary

Davie Lee Songer age 83 of Edina, MO passed away early Thursday morning, September 21, 2017 at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO

Mr. Songer was born September 3, 1934 in Edina, MO, a son of Dallas Oliver and Gertrude Marie Lewis Songer.  On August 29, 1959 in Edina, MO he was united in marriage to Betty Louise Kessler at the parsonage of the Edina Assembly of God Church.

Surviving are his wife, Betty of Edina, MO; two sons, Darrell Songer and Kristen of Chesterfield, MO and David Songer and Sheila of Kirksville, MO; two daughters, Debbie Reeves and Chris of Knox City, MO and Diane Morrow and Jeff of Knox City, MO; eleven grandchildren, Dallas, Brant, Madison, Jordon, Adam, Tristan, Regan, Denise, Jackie, Sydney and Coltin; and five great grandchildren Eden, Fiona, Parker, Noah and Landri.  Also surviving are his twin sister, Barbara Ratliff of Edina, MO, sister-in-law, Doris Songer of Sidney, IA and several nieces and nephews.

Davie was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Neal Lewis Songer, a brother-in-law, Cleo Ratliff and a great granddaughter, Aria Leigh Songer.

Mr. Songer attended the Edina High School and served in the United States Army and Army Reserves.  Davie was employed with the United States Postal Department serving as the Postmaster of the Edina Office for twelve years.  He work a number a years for Kelly Lime and Rock of Newark, MO.  During his retirement years he worked at Pic-A-Dilly and at C & R Supermarket in Edina to be out and about with people.

Davie for most of his life he was a dedicated member of the Edina Assembly of God Church.  He served forty years as a Sunday School teacher.  He preached many years on Wednesday nights and had also served as deacon and janitor of the church.  Church was a very important part of his life and the lives of his family.  He and Betty enjoyed Bluegrass music and went to Branson twice a year and was an avid Cardinals baseball fan.  In his spare time he liked to go to Menards for shopping and browsing.  Family was his upmost joy; he loved his family and spending time with them.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 25, 2017 at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel in Edina, MO.  Reverend Ronald Garner will officiate the service.  Music will be provided by Audrey Hamlin, Debbie Peters and LeAnn Hamlin.

Burial will be in the Linville Cemetery at Edina, MO.  Casket bearers will be Kent Hagerla, Karen Stone, Delmar Strange, Craig Miller, Rick Winters, Charlie Hamlin, Delbert Hawkins and Bob Lewis.

Visitation will be held after 4:00 p.m., Sunday, September 24, 2017 at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO with family receiving friends 6-8 p.m.  Memorial in memory of Mr. Songer may be made to the Knox County Cancer Chapter.  The memorials may be left at or mailed to Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, P.O.
