David Ian Johnston, age 74, of Memphis, MO formerly of Rutledge, passed away Friday, July 14, 2017, in the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO surrounded by his family and friends. He was born January 20, 1943, in Ottumwa, IA, the son of William Ivan and Martha Elizabeth Smallwood Johnston. David was united in marriage to Marian Marie Shahan on June 23, 1963 in Memphis, MO. Surviving are his wife Marian Marie Johnston of Memphis, MO, three children Chris Johnston of Boone, IA, Bryan (Michele) Johnston of Memphis, MO, and Arlise Johnston and special friend Zach Glennon of Chicago, IL, five grandchildren, Whitney (Bradley) Anderson, Gail Johnston and friend Jeremey, Bradley (Jasmine) Hamner, Bailey Johnston and his friend Demitria Farmer and Brandi Johnston, one great grandchild Hayden Hamner, several cousins including Maynard (Jennifer) Johnston of Rutledge, MO and Phillip Pruett of Hurdland, MO. David was preceded in death by his parents. David lived and farmed in the Rutledge community most of his life. He was a mechanic at home and numerous garages in the area. David was a member of the Baptist Church in Rutledge and later the First Baptist Church in Memphis, MO. He was a past 4-H leader and Past Rutledge School Board member. David loved restoring old tractors, painting landscapes on jugs and sawblades and loved spending time with his grandkids. David's wishes were to be cremated with graveside services being held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2017, in the Pauline Cemetery. Reverend Dan Hite will officiate the services. There will be no visitation. Memorials in memory of David Ian Johnston may be made to the Pauline Cemetery or the family. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Hudson-Rimer funeral Home, P.O.
