Cora Ann Clay, age 98, of LaBelle, Missouri, passed away Monday, March 21, 2011, at the LaBelle Manor Care Center in LaBelle, Missouri.
She was born July 26, 1912, the daughter of Arthur and Luella Hendrick Manley.
Cora was united in marriage to Robert R. Clay on April 5, 1932, and he preceded her in death on July 24, 2000. Cora was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Robert S. Clay and Harry Frank Clay, one grandson, Roy Clay Jr. and one great granddaughter Brittney Garrard.
Surviving are three children, Roy William Clay and wife Ella, of LaBelle, Missouri, Arthur D. Clay and wife Susan of Quincy, Illinois, Louella Johnson and husband John of Quincy, Illinois, two daughters-in-law, Zonia Clay and Diane K. Clay both of LaBelle, Missouri, one brother-in-law Granville Clay of Quincy, Illinois, three sisters, Ruby Clay of LaBelle, Missouri, Veda Stewart of Ft. Madison, Iowa, and Blanche Jones of Manhattan, New York, twenty-eight grandchildren, and numerous great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cora was raised in the Maywood and Monticello area where she received her education. Cora was employed for a short time in Monroe City, Missouri. She moved to LaBelle area where she was employed with Head Start, Foster Grandparents, and worked for Prairie View Rest Home for many years. Cora enjoyed crocheting, sewing, gardening, flowers and spending time with family. She was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in LaBelle, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2011, at the Coder Funeral Chapel in LaBelle, Missouri. Officiating the services will be Pastor James Salter and Evangelist Melva Johnson. Music will be provided by Latoshia Tippsord.
Casket bearers will be her granddaughters, Marsha Clay, Tamara Starks, Kara Tournear, Deandrea Reed, Carlotta Clay, Samatha Clay, and Krisha Anderson.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 24, 2011, from 11 a.m. till time of services at 1 p.m. at the coder Funeral Chapel in LaBelle, Missouri.
