Chester Grove, age 95 of Steffenville, MO passed away Saturday, August 1, 2015, in Country Aire Retirement Estates in Lewistown, MO.
He was born May 15, 1920, in Geff, IL the son of Carl and Mary Trotter Grove.
He was united in marriage to Vivian Marie Atkins on October 5, 1945, at Evansville, Indiana and she preceded him in death on January 30, 2011.
Chester was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters, two in infancy.
Surviving are two children, Linda Stutheit of Durham, Missouri, Owen Grove and wife Cheryl of LaBelle, Missouri, five grandchildren, Tony Grove, Tammy Hubble and husband Donnie, Tracy See, Dennis Stutheit and wife Tara, Aaron Stutheit and wife Terri, six great-grandchildren, Evan See, Jarrett Hubble, Keagan Stutheit, Parker Stutheit, James Stutheit, Lauren Stutheit, two step great-grandchildren Scott Meeker and Emily Meeker and several nieces and nephews.
Chester received his education in Illinois. He was a highly decorated Veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1942 to 1945. During his Military service he received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with one Silver Battle Star, the Bronze Service Arrowhead, five Overseas Service Bars, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, and Meritorious Unit Award. He was engaged in farming in the Steffenville area for over 60 years. He was involved in the Veterans History Project in Quincy, IL and was able to partake in the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. He enjoyed life and spending time with his family.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday, August 4, 2015, in the Coder Funeral Chapel in LaBelle, MO. Burial with full Military Honors will be in the Steffenville Cemetery conducted by MO Military Honors Team and Lewis Co. Memorial American Legion Post # 573. Officiating the services will be Reverend Ted Middleton.
Musical selections will be Daddy's Hands and I Did It My Way.
Casket bearers will be Tony Grove, Aaron Stutheit, Donnie Hubble, Tracy See, Keagan Stutheit and Evan See.
Honorary bearers will be Parker Stutheit, Dennis Stutheit, James Stutheit, Lauren Stutheit and Jarrett Hubble.
Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. till time of services at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, in the Coder Funeral Chapel.
