Birdie Marguerite Hall, age 91, of Edina, MO, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012, in the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO.
She was born May 31, 1921, in Hurdland, MO, the daughter of Breece and Elva Dee Platz Long.
She was united in marriage to Raymond Cecil Hall on May 31, 1941, in Brashear, MO, and he preceded her in death on November 9, 2008. Birdie was also preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Frances Dixson, Geneva Henson and Esther Murphy.
Surviving are one son, Duane Randolph Hall of Edina, MO, two nieces, seven nephews, a brother-in-law Lawrence Dixson of Hurdland, MO and three cousins.
Birdie graduated from Hurdland High School where she was Valedictorian of her Class. She and her husband were engaged in farming south of Hurdland most of their life. She was a member of the Edina United Methodist Church. After High School rather than continuing her education she was married to Raymond Hall and went to work on the farm before World War II. She enjoyed cooking, reading, knitting, sewing, crocheting, quilting, gardening, canning, playing the piano in earlier years and had a great love for nature and flowers, especially roses.
She was a sixty-four year member of the National Association for Family & Community Education (FCE), formerly known as Van Horn Extension Club at Hurdland and Edina, MO from 1941 to 2005. She was a member of the Missouri Flying Farmers and had flown solo. She was presented by the National Flying Farmers, a Women's Solo Award in 1965, by Lycoming, a company known for building plane engines. She worked at Northeast Missouri State University in food services in the Student Union cafeteria, banquet rooms and Georgian room, during the 1970's. Most of her life she enjoyed being an excellent housewife, homemaker and spending time with family and friends. She was known as a very kind, caring and thoughtful person and a wonderful mother.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012, in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. Reverend Sam Smith will officiate the services. Burial will be in the Hurdland I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Music will be provided by Ira Moots, Glen Moots, Leon Moots, vocalists and Carol Hayes, organist.
Casket bearers will be Stephen Dixson, Greg Dixson, Alan Dixson, Kenneth Dixson, Kevin Dixson, Marty Dixson and Lawrence Dixson.
Honorary bearers will be Anna Mae Hunziker, Ruth Tague, Eveline Sykes, Betty Kurth, Alice Jean Crump, Betty Peterson, Edra Beach, Nancy Dixson, Teresa Stout, Rebecca Dixson, Anna Lea Sykes and Anita Dixson.
Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2012, with family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home.
