Anna Louise Van Houten, age 87 of Clarence, MO passed away December 22, 2023, at 9:15 a.m. at the Clarence Nursing Home.
Anna Louise was born April 27, 1936, in Cherry Box, MO to Luther and Marie Simmons Turner. She met a young man when she was 16 years old and later married him. She was married to Lyle Van Houten on June 5, 1956. They have lived their entire married life in Clarence, MO.
She is survived by her husband Lyle, three children Stephen and Terresa Van Houten, Cheresa and Randy Stelle and Lordeen Van Houten. Three granddaughters, Valerie and Brad Fallert, Channing Black and Hillary Black. Three great grandsons Cade and Cort Fallert and Draden Black. One brother-in-law Buddy Van Houten. Two sisters-in-law Margaret Turner and Kathryn Van Houten. A niece Kim Offen, nephews Kevin Harris, Kyle Harris and John Jr. Van Houten, a step nephew Kim Rhoades, step grandchildren, Carrie and Dwayne Thrasher and Chris and Veronica Brengle. Step great grandchildren, Cami and Chavese Viers and Gabe Thrasher and a step great-great grandchild Kynsleigh Viers.
Anna Louise joined the Cherry Box Christian Church at an early age and later moved her membership to the Clarence Christian Church where she taught Sunday school for over 30 years and helped with the youth group. Anna Louise loved being with the young people. She was also a member of the Clarence Chapter DAR where she held every office over the years. She also served on the Clarence Library Board.
Anna Louise went to Burlington Beauty Academy in Burlington, IA and opened her first shop in Clarence in 1955. Lyle and Anna Louise bought and operated the service station at the junction of 151 and 36 in 1957. Later in 1997 they built mini storage units. They were in business for 68 years and served their community well.
Anna Louise is preceded in death by her parents and brother, L.C. Turner, one brother-in-law Johnny Van Houten and one sister-in-law Marie Harris.
Anna Louise gave her body to A.T. Still University. A Memorial Service will be held at the Clarence Christian Church on Thursday, December 28, 2023. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and a memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. at the Church.
Officiating the services will be Reverend Dave Mason. Burial will be at a later date in the Maplewood Cemetery. The Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO is assisting the family with arrangements.
